Self Payment

Self Payment is necessary when a person's insurance isn't going to pay for the total cost of rehabilitation or will only pay for some of it. In these situations, it may seem like a disadvantage but individuals in fact have a great deal of leverage simply because they can choose whichever program they would like without the restrictions from health insurance companies that so many men and women face. In addition, rehabilitation centers will usually provide payment assistance for individuals whose only choice is self payment to enable them to get into rehab.

Medicaid

Certain treatment programs will take Medicaid when the individual is unable to self pay or present some other type of private health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term treatment in a limited amount of centers, and in such cases individuals may choose to investigate the self pay option and drum up any resources they are able to to pay for a more quality rehabilitation program which will produce better results, like a long-term residential drug rehab facility.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can receive rehabilitation at alcohol and drug rehab centers which provide either inpatient or outpatient rehab when the program is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the approval of their Medicare appointed physician, who must help in establishing the person's rehab plan. Inpatient services are covered through Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being the same as any other kind of hospital stay, and outpatient rehab being covered through Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the expense of drug rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't a possibility. When someone doesn't have private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they could qualify for state insurance, they can check with their Social Services office in their area to ascertain if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance will take care of both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but typically only within the state which offers the insurance plan.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health insurance plans generally cover some sort of drug rehab service ranging from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation facilities. Individuals could have to participate in an alcohol and drug rehab center that's within their network of providers and there may be other limitations like the amount of time their stay in rehab is covered. Individuals can choose a quality facility they prefer and speak with a rehabilitation counselor to ascertain if their insurance will take care of it.

Sliding Fee Scale

A sliding fee scale is a payment assistance possibility available from a variety of drug rehabilitation facilities in order to help individuals afford treatment where this might not have been doable initially. By way of example, one client's fee for rehabilitation could possibly be different and less than another individual whose financial situation is better making them better able to pay the full expense of treatment. Registrars consider additional circumstances apart from income including number of dependents to ascertain the final cost using the sliding scale.
