Self Payment

Self Payment is needed when someone's insurance isn't going to cover the total cost of rehabilitation or will only cover some of it. In these instances, it may appear like a disadvantage but people actually have a much more leverage simply because they can decide on whichever center they would like without the limitations from health insurers that so many people encounter. Likewise, rehabilitation programs will often offer payment assistance for people whose only choice is self payment to help them get into rehab.

Medicaid

Certain treatment programs will take Medicaid if the individual cannot self pay or present another form of private health insurance. Medicaid might pay for outpatient and short-term rehab in a limited amount of programs, and in such cases individuals may want to explore the self pay option and drum up any resources they can to fund a more quality rehab center that will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek rehab at alcohol and drug rehab centers which provide either inpatient or outpatient rehab if the program is in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the authorization of their Medicare appointed physician, who must aid in establishing the individual's treatment strategy. Inpatient solutions are provided through Medicare Part A, with up front costs being the same as any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehabilitation being paid for through Medicare Medicare Part B.
