Drug Addiction Facts

  • Cuyahoga County, Ohio has 161 deaths attributed to heroin overdoses in 2012.
  • Many individuals who are addicted to opiates prefer the high they get from combining methadone and heroin because they claim it drastically increases the euphoric effects of heroin, which in turn has caused many fatal overdoses.
  • Drug addiction rehab programs are available on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. While both types of rehab programs may lead to positive treatment of an addiction, an inpatient program has a few advantages over an outpatient one.

Outpatient

Outpatient services are on the bottom end of the spectrum of rehabilitation services in terms of intensity of care, since the individual is able to keep their lifestyle in many ways with no commitment of needing to be in a rehab facility while receiving treatment services. Even though this might seem perfect it will not provide the much needed change of atmosphere than many people in rehab need to experience a successful rehabilitation.

ASL or Other Assistance for Hearing Impaired

The hearing impaired can often be predisposed to alcoholism and drug abuse due to challenges their impairment impose on them. While discovery of this issue can be difficult among the hearing impaired, you'll find ASL and other assistance services available for them when substance abuse rehabilitation is necessary. Other than ASL, such services can include assistive listening equipment and captioned video materials so that deaf and hearing impaired individuals are receiving the help they require in drug and alcohol treatment.

Medicaid

Some treatment centers will take Medicaid in the event the individual cannot self pay or present some other kind of private medical health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term rehab within a limited amount of facilities, and in cases like this individuals might want to investigate the self pay option and drum up any resources they're able to to cover a more quality rehabilitation facility which will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential drug rehab center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug rehabilitation if other kinds of insurance or self payment aren't an option. If a person doesn't have any private insurance and doesn't yet know if they might be eligible for state insurance, they can seek advice from their Social Services office within their area to determine if they are and then apply. The majority of state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only inside the state which offers the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans generally cover some type of alcohol and drug treatment service which range from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs. Individuals may have to participate in a drug and alcohol treatment program that's inside their network of providers and there may be other limitations such as the amount of time their stay in rehabilitation is covered. Individuals can pick a good program they like and consult with a rehabilitation specialist to find out if their insurance will cover it.
