Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance isn't going to cover the entire cost of rehabilitation or will only cover part of it. In these instances, it may appear like a disadvantage but people in fact have a much more leverage simply because they can choose whichever program they would like without the limitations from health insurers that so many men and women face. Likewise, rehab programs will often provide payment assistance for people whose only choice is self payment to enable them to get into rehabilitation.

Medicaid

Some treatment centers will take Medicaid if the individual cannot self pay or present some other type of private medical insurance. Medicaid may only pay for outpatient and short-term rehabilitation inside a limited amount of programs, and in cases like this individuals may want to investigate the self pay option and come up with up any resources they are able to to pay for a more quality treatment program which will get better results, like a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the expense of drug and alcohol treatment if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't an option. When someone has no private insurance and doesn't yet know if they may qualify for state insurance, they can check with their Social Services office within their area to determine if they are and then apply. The majority of state financed insurance will handle both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but generally only in the state which offers the insurance plan.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans generally cover some form of drug and alcohol rehab service which range from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. Individuals may have to participate in a drug and alcohol treatment center that is in their network of providers and there might be other limitations for example how long their stay in treatment is covered.
