Drug Addiction Facts

  • At an inpatient drug rehab, each patient goes through intensive individual addiction treatment with a counselor to discuss the issues that led to drug/alcohol addiction and learn to identify and avoid substance abuse triggers.
  • Inpatient treatment programs often require the patient to live at the center fulltime for a fixed period of time after the withdrawal phase is complete, typically 1, 2 or 3 months.
  • Nearly 25% of individuals who use heroin become dependent on it.

Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Substance abuse treatment services are available in many different settings with various rehabilitation lengths and plans to suit the various demands of clients with any type of and amount of addiction. With both short and long term and both inpatient and residential facilities now being included in many insurance plans, you don't have to postpone receiving substance abuse treatment services for anybody who wants it.

Outpatient

Outpatient services are on the lower end of the spectrum of rehabilitation services regarding intensity of care, since the individual can keep their lifestyle in lots of ways without the commitment of needing to be in a rehabilitation center while undergoing treatment services. Although this may appear perfect it may not provide the much needed change of environment than many people in recovery require to have a successful rehabilitation.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance isn't going to pay for the entire cost of rehabilitation or will only pay for part of it. In these cases, it may seem like a disadvantage but individuals really have a great deal of leverage because they can select whichever facility they want without the restrictions from health insurance companies that so many individuals encounter. In addition, rehab programs will often provide payment assistance for individuals whose only option is self payment to enable them to get into treatment.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment are not a possibility. If someone doesn't have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they may qualify for state insurance, they can check with their Social Services office within their area to ascertain if they are and then apply. Most state financed insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but generally only in the state which provides the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private medical health insurance plans typically cover some type of alcohol and drug treatment service ranging from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential drug rehab facilities. Individuals could have to take part in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that's inside their network of providers and there might be other restrictions for example the amount of time their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can pick a quality facility they like and meet with a treatment specialist to determine if their insurance covers it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the expenses of certain substance abuse rehabilitation services. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient centers in addition to partial hospitalization are covered by military insurance, although military members may require pre-authorization and in that case they can speak with their VA or Tricare consultant. There could be some limitations regarding just how long a stay in inpatient alcohol and drug treatment is permitted, and every one of these questions will be answered before you start rehab so that it is clear the length of time and individual can stay in the treatment program of preference.
