Self Payment

Self Payment is required when someone's insurance won't pay for the entire cost of rehabilitation or will only cover some of it. In these instances, it may appear like a drawback but people really have a great deal of leverage due to the fact they can select whichever center they want without the limitations from health insurance companies that so many people encounter. Likewise, rehab programs will usually provide payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to help them get into treatment.

Medicaid

Some rehabilitation facilities accept Medicaid in the event the individual is not able to self pay or present any other type of private medical insurance. Medicaid may only pay for outpatient and short-term rehabilitation in a limited amount of centers, and in this case individuals may want to explore the self pay option and come up with up any resources they can to pay for a more quality treatment program that will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential drug rehabilitation program.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek rehab at alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which provide either inpatient or outpatient treatment when the facility is in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the consent of their Medicare appointed physician, who must assist in setting up the person's rehab plan. Inpatient solutions are provided through Medicare Medicare Part A, with up front costs being similar to any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehabilitation being paid for through Medicare Part B.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health insurance plans typically cover some form of drug rehab service ranging from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs. Individuals could have to participate in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center that is within their network of providers and there can be other restrictions such as the length of time their stay in rehabilitation is covered. Individuals can pick a good facility they prefer and meet with a treatment counselor to ascertain if their insurance will cover it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the expenses of particular substance abuse rehab solutions. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient facilities and also partial hospitalization are paid for by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization in which case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare consultant. There can be some limitations regarding how much time a stay in inpatient drug and alcohol treatment is allowed, and all of these questions can be answered before beginning treatment so that it's clear how much time and individual can stay in the rehabilitation center of choice.
