Drug Addiction Facts

  • Heroin is the most commonly cited substance in mortality cases where illicit drugs are present in Philadelphia, and in 2011 heroin/morphine was found in 32.4 percent of cases.
  • Almost 80% of the Ecstasy related emergency department visits in 2008 involved Ecstasy in combination with alcohol or other drugs, with over 30% involving Ecstasy with one other drug, 15.0 percent involving two other drugs, 14.0 percent involving three other drugs, and 17.5 percent involving four or more other drugs.
  • The increase in serotonin caused by Ecstasy which produces a high also results in a low because the drug also interferes with its synthesis which leads to a considerable depletion of serotonin. As a result, it takes the human brain a significant amount of time to rebuild the store of serotonin needed to perform important physiological and psychological functions.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when someone's insurance isn't going to cover the total cost of rehab or will only cover some of it. In these situations, it may seem like a drawback but people in fact have a much more leverage simply because they can choose whichever program they want without the restrictions from health insurance providers that so many individuals encounter. In addition, treatment facilities will usually offer payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to help them get into rehabilitation.

Medicaid

Some treatment centers will take Medicaid in the event the individual is unable to self pay or present any other type of private health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term rehab within a limited amount of centers, and in cases like this individuals might want to investigate the self pay option and come up with up any resources they can to pay for a more quality rehab facility that will produce better results, such as a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the expense of drug rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't a choice. When someone doesn't have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they could be eligible for state insurance, they can seek advice from their Social Services office in their area to determine if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, but typically only in the state which provides the insurance coverage.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private medical health insurance plans typically cover some kind of alcohol and drug treatment service ranging from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. Individuals could have to take part in a drug treatment facility that's within their network of providers and there can be other limitations including just how long their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can select a quality center they like and consult with a treatment counselor to find out if their insurance will cover it.
