Drug Addiction Facts

  • The intense, full-time nature of inpatient drug/alcohol rehab helps defeat the always-looming specter of relapse. It more effectively leads to the self-realization and skills needed to achieve and maintain a drug-free life.
  • Deaths have occurred in doctors' offices with as little as 25 mg of cocaine applied to the mucous membrane.
  • Methamphetamine addicted individuals often develop sores on their bodies because they scratch at imaginary bugs they believe are crawling under their skin.

Hospital Inpatient

Hospital inpatient services are accessible to anyone that must be safely managed through detox services when seriously dependent to drugs and/or alcohol, or who requires a better spectrum of care such as someone who has a dual diagnosis and also requires mental health services during their treatment procedure. There are both short-term and long-term hospital inpatient services available.

Outpatient

Outpatient services are on the low end of the spectrum of rehabilitation solutions in terms of intensity of care, as the individual can preserve their lifestyle in several ways with no commitment of needing to be in a rehab facility while receiving rehabilitation services. While this might appear perfect it may not provide the required change of environment than lots of people in rehab require to have a successful rehab.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't cover the entire cost of treatment or will only cover part of it. In these instances, it may appear like a disadvantage but individuals actually have a great deal of leverage simply because they can decide on whichever program they would like without the restrictions from health insurers that so many people face. In addition, rehab programs will often provide payment assistance for individuals whose only option is self payment to help them get into treatment.

Medicaid

Certain treatment programs will take Medicaid if the individual is not able to self pay or present some other form of private health insurance. Medicaid may possibly cover outpatient and short-term rehab in a limited amount of centers, and in this case individuals may want to explore the self pay alternative and drum up any resources they can to pay for a more quality treatment center that will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek rehab at drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which deliver either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation when the program is in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the approval of their Medicare appointed physician, who must help out with establishing the person's rehabilitation plan. Inpatient solutions are provided through Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being similar to any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehab being paid for through Medicare Medicare Part B.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans typically cover some type of drug and alcohol treatment service ranging from outpatient treatment to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities. Individuals might have to participate in a drug and alcohol rehab center which is inside their network of providers and there can be other restrictions including how long their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can select a good facility they like and speak with a rehabilitation counselor to determine if their insurance will cover it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the price of particular drug abuse rehabilitation services. Detox services, outpatient and inpatient facilities in addition to partial hospitalization are all paid for by military insurance, although military members may require pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare consultant. There could be some restrictions concerning how much time a stay in inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation is permitted, and all of these questions will be answered prior to starting rehab so that it's clear the length of time and individual can remain in the rehabilitation facility of preference.
