Drug Addiction Facts

  • Children treated with stimulant drugs such as Ritalin to control (ADHD) take up cigarette smoking earlier, smoke more heavily and are more likely to abuse cocaine and other stimulants as adults.
  • Fentanyl is an extremely dangerous substitute for heroin because it is much more potent than heroin, which often results in accidental overdoses and death as a result of respiratory depression.
  • Overcoming meth addiction is often impossible without drug rehab, particularly because of severe physical and mental illnesses, including suicidal depression that results from meth use and meth withdrawal.

Outpatient

Outpatient solutions are on the low end of the spectrum of rehabilitation solutions in terms of level of care, since the individual will be able to keep their lifestyle in lots of ways with no commitment of needing to be in a rehab center while receiving rehabilitation services. Although this might seem perfect it might not provide the required change of atmosphere than a lot of people in recovery need to have a productive rehab.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't pay for the entire cost of rehab or will only cover some of it. In these cases, it may appear like a disadvantage but people in fact have a great deal of leverage simply because they can choose whichever facility they would like without the restrictions from health insurance companies that so many individuals face. Likewise, rehab centers will often offer payment assistance for individuals whose only choice is self payment to enable them to get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some rehabilitation facilities accept Medicaid if the individual is not able to self pay or present some other form of private health insurance. Medicaid may possibly cover outpatient and short-term treatment inside a limited amount of facilities, and in cases like this individuals may want to explore the self pay option and come up with up any resources they're able to to cover a more quality rehabilitation facility that will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehab program.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can receive treatment at drug rehabilitation centers which deliver either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation when the program is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the consent of their Medicare appointed physician, who must help in setting up the individual's rehabilitation strategy. Inpatient solutions are covered through Medicare Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being the same as any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehabilitation being covered through Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of drug and alcohol rehab if other forms of insurance or self payment are not an option. If someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they could be eligible for state insurance, they should consult their Social Services office in their area to ascertain if they are and then fill out an application. The majority of state financed insurance will handle both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only within the state which offers the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans typically cover some sort of drug and alcohol treatment service which range from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential drug rehab facilities. Individuals may have to take part in a drug and alcohol treatment center which is in their network of providers and there may be other restrictions for example the length of time their stay in rehabilitation is covered. Individuals can pick a good facility they prefer and speak with a rehab counselor to find out if their insurance will take care of it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the costs of certain substance abuse treatment services. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient centers along with partial hospitalization are paid for by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare representative. There can be some restrictions regarding how long a stay in inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation is permitted, and every one of these questions will be answered before you begin rehab so that it is clear just how long and individual can stay in the treatment program of choice.
