Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't pay for the entire cost of rehab or will only pay for some of it. In these cases, it may appear like a disadvantage but individuals really have a great deal of leverage due to the fact they can decide on whichever program they would like without the restrictions from health insurance providers that so many men and women face. Likewise, rehab programs will often provide payment assistance for individuals whose only option is self payment to enable them to get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some treatment programs will take Medicaid in the event the individual is unable to self pay or present some other type of private health insurance. Medicaid may only pay for outpatient and short-term rehab inside a limited amount of programs, and in cases like this individuals may wish to explore the self pay option and drum up any resources they are able to to pay for a more quality treatment facility which will get better results, such as a long-term residential alcohol and drug treatment center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug rehabilitation if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't a choice. If a person doesn't have private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they could be eligible for state insurance, they should check with their Social Services office within their area to figure out if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance will take care of both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but usually only within the state which provides the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health insurance plans typically cover some form of alcohol and drug rehab service including outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs. Individuals may have to take part in an alcohol and drug treatment center that is in their network of providers and there can be other limitations such as how long their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can select a good program they like and consult with a rehabilitation counselor to find out if their insurance will take care of it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the price of particular substance abuse treatment solutions. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient centers along with partial hospitalization are covered by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization in which case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare representative. There can be some restrictions about just how long a stay in inpatient alcohol and drug treatment is permitted, and all of these questions will be answered before you begin rehabilitation so that it is clear how much time and individual can stay in the rehabilitation program of preference.
