Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't pay for the entire cost of rehabilitation or will only pay for some of it. In these situations, it may seem like a disadvantage but people in fact have a much more leverage because they can choose whichever facility they want without the limitations from health insurance providers that so many men and women encounter. In addition, rehab facilities will often offer payment assistance for people whose only choice is self payment to help them get into rehabilitation.

Medicaid

Some rehab facilities accept Medicaid when the individual is unable to self pay or present another type of private health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term treatment within a limited amount of facilities, and in this case individuals may choose to explore the self pay alternative and come up with up any resources they can to cover a more quality rehab center which will get better results, such as a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug rehabilitation if other kinds of insurance or self payment are not a possibility. When someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they might be eligible for state insurance, they should check with their Social Services office in their area to determine if they are and then apply. The majority of state financed insurance will cover both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only inside the state which provides the insurance.

Sliding Fee Scale

A sliding fee scale is a payment assistance option offered by a number of drug rehab centers in an effort to help individuals pay for rehabilitation where this may not have been doable originally. For example, one client's fee for treatment could be different and another person whose finances are better making them better able to spend the money for full price of rehabilitation. Registrars take into account other factors in addition to income including amount of dependents to determine the final cost and using the sliding scale.
