Self Payment

Self Payment is needed when someone's insurance isn't going to pay for the total cost of rehab or will only cover some of it. In these cases, it may appear like a drawback but people really have a great deal of leverage because they can decide on whichever program they would like without the restrictions from health insurers that so many men and women face. Likewise, treatment facilities will usually provide payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to help them get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some treatment programs will take Medicaid when the individual is not able to self pay or present some other form of private health care insurance. Medicaid might pay for outpatient and short-term rehabilitation within a limited amount of programs, and in this instance individuals may wish to investigate the self pay option and drum up any resources they are able to to pay for a more quality treatment program that will produce better results, such as a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehab center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the expense of drug rehab if other forms of insurance or self payment are not an option. If a person has no private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they could qualify for state insurance, they can check with their Social Services office within their area to determine if they are and then apply. Most state financed insurance will handle both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but typically only within the state which offers the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans typically cover some form of drug and alcohol rehabilitation service ranging from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs. Individuals could possibly have to take part in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility that is in their network of providers and there could be other restrictions such as the length of time their stay in rehab is covered. Individuals can choose a quality facility they prefer and meet with a rehab counselor to ascertain if their insurance will take care of it.
