Drug Addiction Facts

  • A recent study of cocaine abusers found elevated levels of serum C-reactive protein, a protein associated with inflammation, associated with endothelial abnormalities and coronary artery calcification. Both contribute to heart disease.
  • The 5 and 10 mg strength methadone tablets are the only formulations approved by FDA for use in pain management and other formulations, including dispersible tablets, have been prescribed for pain control.
  • Ecstasy affects many of the same areas of the brain that are targeted by other addictive drugs, and studies show that animals prefer the drug, much like they do cocaine, over other pleasurable stimuli, which is another hallmark of most addictive drugs.

Outpatient

Outpatient solutions are on the low end of the spectrum of rehabilitation solutions regarding level of care, as the individual will be able to preserve their lifestyle in many ways without the commitment of needing to be in a rehab facility while undergoing rehab services. Even if this may appear ideal it may not provide the required change of environment than many people in rehab need to have a successful rehabilitation.

Medicaid

Some treatment centers accept Medicaid if the individual cannot self pay or present some other form of private medical insurance. Medicaid might pay for outpatient and short-term rehabilitation within a limited amount of programs, and in cases like this individuals may wish to explore the self pay option and drum up any resources they can to fund a more quality rehab center which will get better results, like a long-term residential alcohol and drug rehab facility.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek treatment at drug and alcohol rehab programs which deliver either inpatient or outpatient treatment if the facility is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the consent of their Medicare appointed doctor, who must aid in establishing the person's rehab plan. Inpatient solutions are covered through Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being the same as any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient treatment being paid for through Medicare Part B.
