Drug Addiction Facts

  • All stimulants, whether prescription or illicit such as methamphetamine, work by increasing dopamine levels in the brain; dopamine is a brain chemical which has to do with pleasure, movement, and attention. This is what produces a high when abused.
  • The risk of cocaine use for high school students is much greater for those who have tried marijuana than for those who have never tried it.
  • Inpatient treatment programs last a minimum of 28 days. Patients voluntarily enter a safe, secure center in which intensive drug/alcohol treatment programs are the foundation of the patient's daily activities.

Substance Abuse Treatment Services

Substance abuse treatment services can be obtained in several settings and with different rehab lengths and plans to accommodate the various needs of clients with any type of and amount of addiction. With both long and short term and both inpatient and residential programs now being paid by many insurance companies, there is no need to postpone receiving substance abuse treatment services for anyone who desires it.

Outpatient

Outpatient services are on the low end of the spectrum of rehab services in terms of intensity of care, since the individual will be able to preserve their lifestyle in lots of ways with no commitment of needing to stay in a treatment center while receiving rehab services. While this may appear ideal it will not provide the much needed change of atmosphere than lots of people in rehabilitation need to experience a productive rehabilitation.

DUI/DWI Offenders

DUI and DWI offenders are often given the possibility or ordered to treatment as a term of their sentencing. Often times, the offender can decide which rehabilitation facility they wish to attend. When successfully completed, DUI and DWI offenders can take advantage of decreased sentencing options in order to move ahead in their lives without getting penalized further.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance isn't going to cover the total cost of rehab or will only cover part of it. In these cases, it may seem like a disadvantage but individuals actually have a much more leverage because they can select whichever program they want without the restrictions from health insurers that so many men and women face. In addition, rehabilitation centers will often offer payment assistance for individuals whose only choice is self payment to enable them to get into treatment.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the expense of drug rehabilitation if other kinds of insurance or self payment aren't a possibility. If someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they may qualify for state insurance, they can talk with their Social Services office in their area to determine if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient treatment, but generally only in the state which provides the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private medical health insurance plans generally cover some form of drug rehabilitation service ranging from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. Individuals may have to participate in a drug rehabilitation center that's within their network of providers and there can be other restrictions such as the length of time their stay in rehab is covered. Individuals can choose a good facility they like and speak with a treatment counselor to determine if their insurance will handle it.
