Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't pay for the total cost of treatment or will only pay for some of it. In these cases, it may appear like a drawback but people actually have a great deal of leverage simply because they can choose whichever center they would like without the restrictions from health insurers that so many people encounter. In addition, treatment facilities will usually provide payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to enable them to get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some rehab programs accept Medicaid in the event the individual is unable to self pay or present another form of private medical health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term rehab in a limited amount of facilities, and in this case individuals may wish to investigate the self pay option and come up with up any resources they're able to to fund a more quality treatment facility that will get better results, such as a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehab facility.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek rehab at drug rehab facilities which provide either inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation when the program is in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the authorization of their Medicare appointed physician, who must help in establishing the individual's rehabilitation strategy. Inpatient services are covered through Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being the same as any other kind of hospital stay, and outpatient rehab being paid for through Medicare Part B.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private medical insurance plans generally cover some type of alcohol and drug rehabilitation service which range from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation programs. Individuals might have to participate in an alcohol and drug rehab program that is in their network of providers and there may be other restrictions including the length of time their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can choose a good center they like and meet with a treatment counselor to find out if their insurance will cover it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance such as VA and Tricare does cover the costs of certain substance abuse treatment solutions. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient centers in addition to partial hospitalization are covered by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization in which case they can speak with their VA or Tricare representative. There may be some limitations concerning just how long a stay in inpatient drug and alcohol treatment is allowed, and every one of these questions will be answered before you start treatment so that it's clear how much time and individual can stay in the rehabilitation program of choice.
