Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't pay for the total cost of rehab or will only pay for part of it. In these instances, it may appear like a drawback but people really have a much more leverage because they can decide on whichever facility they want without the limitations from health insurance providers that so many individuals face. In addition, rehab programs will usually provide payment assistance for individuals whose only choice is self payment to help them get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some rehab facilities will take Medicaid when the individual cannot self pay or present another type of private medical insurance. Medicaid may possibly cover outpatient and short-term treatment within a limited amount of programs, and in such cases individuals may wish to investigate the self pay option and drum up any resources they are able to to cover a more quality rehab facility that will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment center.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid can be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug treatment if other forms of insurance or self payment are not a possibility. When someone doesn't have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they might qualify for state insurance, they can consult their Social Services office within their area to ascertain if they are and then apply. The majority of state financed insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, but typically only inside the state which provides the insurance coverage.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which plan you are covered by, all private health insurance plans typically cover some kind of drug rehab service ranging from outpatient rehabilitation to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facilities. Individuals could have to take part in a drug treatment center which is inside their network of providers and there might be other restrictions like the length of time their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can select a good center they prefer and consult with a treatment specialist to ascertain if their insurance will handle it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance which includes VA and Tricare does cover the expense of certain drug abuse rehab solutions. Detox services, outpatient and inpatient centers along with partial hospitalization are all paid for by military insurance, although military members may need pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare representative. There might be some limitations about how much time a stay in inpatient drug rehabilitation is permitted, and every one of these questions will be answered before you start rehab so that it is clear the length of time and individual can remain in the treatment facility of preference.
