Self Payment

Self Payment is needed when a person's insurance isn't going to pay for the total cost of treatment or will only cover some of it. In these cases, it may appear like a disadvantage but individuals in fact have a much more leverage simply because they can choose whichever center they want without the limitations from health insurance companies that so many people face. In addition, rehab facilities will frequently provide payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to help them get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some treatment programs will take Medicaid if the individual is not able to self pay or present some other type of private health insurance. Medicaid may possibly pay for outpatient and short-term rehab inside a limited amount of facilities, and in this case individuals may choose to investigate the self pay alternative and drum up any resources they can to pay for a more quality rehabilitation facility that will produce better results, say for example a long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment program.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can seek treatment at drug and alcohol rehab centers which provide either inpatient or outpatient rehab if the center is included in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the approval of their Medicare appointed doctor, who must assist in establishing the individual's rehab strategy. Inpatient solutions are covered through Medicare Part A, with up front costs being exactly like any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient treatment being covered through Medicare Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of drug and alcohol rehab if other kinds of insurance or self payment are not a choice. When someone doesn't have any private insurance and doesn't yet know if they might qualify for state insurance, they can seek advice from their Social Services office in their area to determine if they are and then fill out an application. The majority of state financed insurance will handle both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only inside the state which provides the insurance.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private health care insurance plans typically cover some form of drug and alcohol rehabilitation service ranging from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment centers. Individuals could have to participate in a drug rehabilitation center which is inside their network of providers and there can be other limitations including just how long their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can select an excellent facility they prefer and speak with a treatment counselor to ascertain if their insurance will cover it.

Military Insurance (E.G., Va, Tricare)

Military insurance including VA and Tricare does cover the expenses of certain drug abuse rehab services. Detoxification services, outpatient and inpatient programs along with partial hospitalization are covered by military insurance, although military members may require pre-authorization and in that case they can liaise with their VA or Tricare consultant. There could be some limitations concerning how much time a stay in inpatient drug treatment is permitted, and every one of these questions will be answered before beginning rehabilitation so that it is clear just how long and individual can remain in the rehab center of preference.
