Drug Addiction Facts

  • Studies have found that the THC in marijuana disrupts coordination and balance, which severely impacts learning, the performance of complicated tasks, participation in sports, and driving.
  • The most common method of treatment, in an inpatient treatment, is a therapeutic community, involving the staff and other individuals, focusing on helping the person identify the sources and conditions that lead to substance abuse.
  • Because prescription stimulants suppress appetite, increase wakefulness, focus and attention, they are often abused for weight loss and for performance enhancement in sports.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't pay for the total cost of rehabilitation or will only cover part of it. In these situations, it may seem like a drawback but individuals in fact have a much more leverage because they can decide on whichever program they want without the restrictions from health insurance providers that so many people face. In addition, rehab centers will usually provide payment assistance for people whose only option is self payment to enable them to get into rehab.

Medicaid

Some rehabilitation facilities will take Medicaid if the individual is not able to self pay or present another form of private health insurance. Medicaid may only cover outpatient and short-term treatment in a limited amount of centers, and in such cases individuals may wish to explore the self pay option and come up with up any resources they're able to to cover a more quality rehab facility that will produce better results, like a long-term residential alcohol and drug treatment program.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the expense of drug treatment if other forms of insurance or self payment aren't an option. If a person doesn't have private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they might be eligible for state insurance, they can consult their Social Services office within their area to ascertain if they are and then apply. Most state financed insurance will handle both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation, but usually only in the state which offers the insurance plan.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private medical health insurance plans generally cover some form of drug rehabilitation service including outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers. Individuals might have to participate in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center that's within their network of providers and there could be other restrictions for example just how long their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can pick an excellent program they like and speak with a treatment specialist to ascertain if their insurance will handle it.
