Drug Addiction Facts

  • Animal studies indicate that animals will work more persistently at pressing a bar for cocaine than for any other drug, including opiates. In one example, one monkey test subject pressed the bar 12,800 times until it got a single dose of cocaine. If the animal survives in such studies, it will return to the task of obtaining more cocaine.
  • It is not uncommon for chronic methamphetamine users to experience psychotic behavior including intense paranoia, hallucinations, and out-of-control rage that can result in violent episodes.
  • Deaths have occurred after snorting a single line of cocaine in recreational use where the average dose of 1 line is 20 mg.

Outpatient

Outpatient solutions are on the low end of the spectrum of treatment solutions in terms of level of care, because the individual is able to keep their lifestyle in many ways with no commitment of having to be in a rehabilitation program while receiving rehabilitation services. While this may appear perfect it will not provide the required change of surroundings than many individuals in rehabilitation need to have a successful rehabilitation.

Criminal Justice Clients

Criminal justice clients find their way into rehabilitation due to a court ruling to satisfy part of their sentencing for a drug offense. Criminal justice clients in drug treatment often receive reduced sentences, fines etc. when cooperating with drug and alcohol treatment specifications enforced on them as part of sentencing and also of course when successfully graduating a drug and alcohol rehab program.

Self Payment

Self Payment is required when a person's insurance won't cover the total cost of treatment or will only pay for some of it. In these situations, it may appear like a drawback but individuals in fact have a great deal of leverage simply because they can choose whichever facility they would like without the restrictions from health insurance providers that so many individuals encounter. Likewise, rehab programs will often offer payment assistance for individuals whose only option is self payment to help them get into treatment.

Medicaid

Certain treatment facilities will take Medicaid when the individual is unable to self pay or present another type of private health insurance. Medicaid might pay for outpatient and short-term treatment in a limited amount of centers, and in cases like this individuals may choose to investigate the self pay option and drum up any resources they are able to to fund a more quality rehabilitation facility that will get better results, such as a long-term residential drug treatment facility.

Medicare

Medicare recipients can receive rehabilitation at drug and alcohol treatment programs which deliver either inpatient or outpatient treatment when the center is in the network of Medicare-participating providers and with the authorization of their Medicare appointed doctor, who must help out with setting up the individual's treatment plan. Inpatient solutions are provided through Medicare Part A, with out of pocket costs being similar to any other type of hospital stay, and outpatient rehab being covered through Medicare Medicare Part B.

State Financed Insurance (Other Than Medicaid)

State financed insurance other than Medicaid may be used to cover the costs of alcohol and drug treatment if other kinds of insurance or self payment are not a possibility. When someone does not have any private insurance and doesn't yet know whether they might be eligible for state insurance, they should check with their Social Services office in their area to figure out if they are and then fill out an application. Most state financed insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient rehab, but usually only inside the state which offers the insurance plan.

Private Health Insurance

Depending on which program you are covered by, all private medical insurance plans typically cover some kind of drug treatment service ranging from outpatient rehab to inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities. Individuals may have to take part in a drug treatment center that's in their network of providers and there may be other limitations including the amount of time their stay in treatment is covered. Individuals can choose an excellent facility they like and speak with a rehab counselor to determine if their insurance covers it.
